J. Randolph Hecht, MD
A graduate of the University of Eastern Virginia Medical School 1984, Dr. Hecht completed his medical internship and fellowship at Northwestern University and University of Chicago. Dr. Hecht completed his fellowship in medical hematology-oncology at UCLA in 1997, and since then, has been the Director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology program at the UCLA School of Medicine.
Dr. Hecht's research and clinical interests concern malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract. He participates in a range of activities and is particularly interested in translating laboratory findings into improved patient care. Hecht's current research includes preclinical models of therapy with biological agents, novel imaging techniques, Phase I studies with gene therapy vectors and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, as well as leading large clinical trials evaluating inhibitors of angiogenesis and the epidermal growth factor receptor.

- Explain results of the addition of cisplatin to gemcitabine in the treatment of locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
- Discuss the results of the use of pegfilgrastim among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who are receiving treatment with every other week regimens.
- Understand results associated with the use of FOLFOX versus standard fluorouracil plus cisplatin in the treatment of locally advanced or inoperable esophageal cancer.
- Understand the use of markers to help predict outcomes from specific treatments in gastrointestinal cancers.
- Discuss the safety and efficacy results of the Panitumumab Advanced Colorectal Cancer Evaluation (PAACE) trial.
